When we take a close look at the last 100 years of our history, we can observe an intriguing and significant pattern. It becomes evident that we have achieved victory in our struggles for independence when the Russian factor was either inactive or completely absent, and we have suffered defeat when it played a prominent or decisive role.
For instance, during the heroic battles of May 1918, we achieved victories because Russia was in turmoil following the fall of Tsarist Russia a year earlier and the rise of the Bolsheviks. However, just two years later, in the autumn of 1920, during the war for our independence against the Kemalist forces, we were defeated. Notably, in Syunik, where Nzhdeh and his freedom fighters operated, we achieved victory on that front. Still, on the other front, our army included Armenian officers trained in Russian military academies, many of whom were either direct agents of Russia or agents of influence. Let us not forget that Bolshevik Russia had financed and armed the Kemalists against Armenia.
Seventy years after 1918, the liberation war for Artsakh began, and we liberated it (though, unfortunately, we failed to secure it on paper) on May 12, 1994. This success was possible because the Soviet Union had just collapsed, and Russia was in a weakened and dire state. Thanks to this, we were able to achieve victory. However, 26 years later, we suffered a treacherous defeat in the so-called 44-day war of 2020. As in 1920, our army was once again led by Armenian officers trained in Russian military academies. It is crucial to emphasize that Turkey could not have conducted such operations in Artsakh alongside Azerbaijan without Russia's permission and even support—this is an undeniable fact.
Thus, we can conclude that when the Russian factor is absent, and we fight with a freedom fighter spirit, we succeed against the Turks. However, when that factor is present, and our army lacks that spirit and we rely heavily on pro-Russian Armenian officers and generals, we suffer disgraceful defeats. These disastrous outcomes occur because the Kremlin and their collaborators in Armenia deceitfully stabs us in the back, after which Russian forces always arrive as "saviors."
Let this fact be remembered by those who insist that we cannot fight the Turks and win without Russia, as history and reality clearly shows us the opposite.
