People who do nothing and only speak in grand, empty words love telling others, “take action, act, act,” as if life were some kind of Hollywood movie where we must constantly be in fights. Such ignorant people know nothing about history and are completely detached from reality. In life—and especially in political struggle—the period of preparation actually lasts a hundred times longer, if not more, than the moment of “taking action” itself.
A boxer trains for months to prepare for a fight that will last, at most, 30 minutes. Singers prepare for months for a concert that lasts only a few hours. We could give thousands of other examples. They work and struggle behind closed doors for months and years, but the audience does not see that struggle—they only see the final polished result. And what applies to them applies even more to politicians—especially revolutionary figures. Even an army can spend decades preparing to fight in a war that will last only a few months or a few weeks.
Yes, our goal is to carry out a national revolution through legal means, but its preparation requires years of hard, consistent work. Moreover, major changes require major opportunities, and that window of opportunity is not always open for us to make radical change whenever we wish. It opens for a brief moment, and then it may remain closed again for decades. That window of opportunity last time opened for our freedom fighters 35 years ago, when the Soviet Union collapsed and we were able to liberate Artsakh. That is why, no matter how much they wanted to and how prepared they were, our freedom fighters simply could not have “taken action” to liberate Artsakh, for example, in the early 1980s. And it is my deep conviction and belief that this window of opportunity will open again in the near future so that we can bring to a victorious conclusion what our freedom fighters began in the previous century.
The overwhelming majority of our compatriots—even relatively more intelligent people—do not understand all of this and are not even aware of such patterns. That is precisely why they keep doing the same things over and over again and wonder why nothing changes. They continue to become discouraged and disappointed without understanding these historical processes. Whatever we do, we must do it in order to be prepared when that window of opportunity opens, if our sincere intention is to build a true national state through a national revolution.
All of this was explained very precisely by former American president Abraham Lincoln when he said: “Give me six hours to chop down a tree, and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe” (of course, this is metaphorical). What remains is for us to understand this truth and continue "sharpening our axe" in order to “cut the tree” in the future. We have one remaining opportunity to save our Fatherland and our statehood from final destruction, and we cannot afford to miss it.
