Military parades are a good thing, but let me refresh your memory with a few important and sobering facts. From the very first day of the founding of Armenia’s “Third Republic” until 2020, 5 military parades were held in the Republic of Armenia, and another 5 military parades were held in the Republic of Artsakh, where many different types of weapons were showcased. Of course, we should also not forget how, before the war, the current government was displaying newly acquired weapons, declaring “Artsakh is Armenia, period,” and showcasing resistance against the Azerbaijani army in Tavush.
But then came the 44-day treacherous war, in which our army was stabbed in the back, resulting in a disgraceful defeat, after which so many of our weapons fell into the hands of the enemy. In reality, it turns out that those ten military parades did not play a major role, because the number one cause of the humiliating defeat was internal betrayal, and more broadly the fact that the strategy of our armed forces had been built on flawed foundations from the very first day of their creation. We lost the war because the problem was more political than military. Those military parades seemed to show us that everything was fine, while the reality was completely different. And it seems that they are doing the exact same thing again now.
If, after ten military parades, Artsakh was still “betrayed” in such a way, what guarantee do we have that the same will not be done to the entire Republic of Armenia? The only difference is that back then we were a victorious state, we were in a stronger position, and the government spoke to the enemy in an aggressive tone. Now they make heart signs, display a smaller and more vulnerable map of Armenia, and promote their defeatist policies under the slogans of so-called “peace,” as if all of this were an achievement. However, for any rational and conscious Armenian, it is clear that this is not progress, but a clear and tragic regression.
Honor and glory to all the soldiers serving in our army, but let us not forget that until we fundamentally and revolutionarily solve our political problems — by building a national state and creating a real Armenian army — we will never be able to solve the military challenges before us and neutralize the existential dangers threatening our country.
