In the previous century, when our nation was enduring genocide and standing on the brink of annihilation, our freedom fighters used the skull and bones as a symbol in their determined struggle against the enemy. It symbolized a fight to the very end—until victory—because they were ready to sacrifice their lives for freedom. 

Their slogans were: “Either death or freedom” and “Revenge, revenge,” as an expression of struggle and uncompromising resistance. They had set before themselves the goal of taking revenge and punishing the enemy, and they were ready to do so at any cost. It also represents loyalty unto death—loyalty to the nation, the Fatherland, and the idea of independence—because loyalty to these sacred values was their honor.

They understood that without such devotion and a life-or-death struggle, we could never defend our nation’s rights and interests in this harsh and unforgiving world. Therefore, let us remember this symbol in the new century and allow it to be engraved in our consciousness.
