By raising the flag of resistance, we send a message to the entire world from Smbataberd itself—one of our historic fortresses. We make it clear that, rather than kneeling before the enemies of humanity, the new generation of Armenian nationalists has chosen to stand firm, like our own impregnable fortresses. Yet we must understand that Smbataberd is a fortress within an even greater fortress—the Armenian Highlands. We can preserve and defend it only when we replace our present-day servile mentality with a spirit of struggle, and our defeatist politics with a politics of victory.

But what does it mean to raise the flag of resistance? It means that if our mortal enemies speak of and dream about their so-called “Western Azerbaijan” and actively work to turn that vision into reality, then, in response, we must speak of and envision the restoration of Greater Armenia—and take small, deliberate steps toward making that vision a reality.
