Before the start of the 2022 Russo-Ukrainian war, for more than twenty years in Russia, Vladimir Putin was regarded as the leader who managed to pull the country out of the “hellish” conditions of the 1990s and bring stability. Many Russians supported and elected him for exactly that reason.
But as it turns out, due to his incompetence and ineffectiveness, the same leader has been pushing Russia year by year toward internal instability and an escalating crisis, which could become far more destructive for Russia than the collapse of the Soviet Union following the end of the Soviet-Afghan War.
This is already becoming increasingly evident among the younger generation in Russia, who say on social media (and whose posts receive millions of views) that the country is sliding back toward the 1990s. However, in reality, what awaits the Russian Federation will make the “hell” of the 1990s seem like paradise in comparison...
