In reality, for us Armenians, it doesn’t particularly matter how much tensions escalate between the Turks, Russians, and Zionists, or even how fiercely they might go to war with and slaughter one another—because in the end, they will once again unite and form alliances against our independent state, the moment they see Armenia trying to rise to its feet and become a force in this region. We must stop looking at everything superficially and imagining that a 300-year-old empire like Russia would suddenly change its fundamental position just because a few of its drug-dealing citizens are being arrested in Azerbaijan. That notion is simply laughable. Even the best of friends—or spouses—have arguments from time to time. States like these do not approach geopolitics in such a simplistic and one-dimensional manner. Such events only manage to deceive peoples like ours—naive and deprived of an independent state for centuries. What has always united these sinister forces—and will continue to unite them—is anti-Armenianism. And we must never forget this, because none of them has any interest in seeing a truly independent, united, and powerful Armenia rise in this region. Let us stop living with false hopes, thinking that Armenia might somehow benefit from such developments. Let us face reality and understand that we can only withstand these predators by relying on our own strength and preparing for a decisive struggle. No matter how much we try to ignore this truth, sooner or later we will be forced into that fight—just as our freedom fighters were, 35 years ago. The sooner we understand this, the better we will be able to weather the storm that lies ahead.
