When we often assert that the only way to get out of our current disastrous situation is to become a force to be reckoned with as a nation and, first and foremost, to rely on our own strength, fight, and show resistance, a significant portion of people consider this “unrealistic” or “romantic,” especially those “all-Armenian wise men” who day and night brainwash our compatriots with their empty rhetoric. Yet in reality, it is their way of thinking that is unrealistic and completely detached from reality, because they simply do not understand the rules upon which this world is built—or they do understand them but deliberately mislead people. In any case, what we are saying is historically proven and grounded in both our own experience and the experience of the world at large. What we are saying is, in fact, the most realistic and rational approach, because we have always succeeded when we have adopted such an approach. In the May Heroic Battles, the battles of Mountainous Armenia, and the Artsakh Liberation War, our heroic commanders and freedom fighters forged victories not by thinking about whether they were “pro-Western” or “pro-Russian,” but by thinking about what needed to be done to defeat the enemy so that they would not dare to raise their hand against us again.

People may mistakenly think that what we are saying means abandoning the idea of having allies, but the reality is exactly the opposite. Only through what we are advocating will it be possible to gain genuine allies who will take us seriously, rather than patrons who will seek to use us. When others see that we are using our human and material resources to their fullest potential, regardless of how small or limited those resources may be, they will treat us seriously and with respect, because what applies to personal relationships also applies to relations between different countries. No one likes a whiner, a wretched, a servile, a beggar, and a cowardly person or people.

It is better to accept that we have no friends or benefactors and make our decisions and take our steps accordingly than to believe that we have one ally or another, only to be repeatedly deceived and disappointed, as has happened many times throughout our history. Let us accept that we are alone and think about what we should do under those circumstances. Aram Manukyan understood this well during one of the most critical periods in the history of our nation, when he said, “We are alone and must rely solely on our own strength.” He knew that help would come to us only if we begin to fight selflessly and demonstrate that we were even prepared to die for our rights and interests.

And just as we, as a nation, must show the world that with the resources available to us we can become a force to be reckoned with and resist forces that surpass us in both numbers and material resources, we must first demonstrate that we can establish and build a genuine national political movement outside this polluted and rotten system—without any anti-national or treacherous patronage, relying entirely on our limited resources and our own small but dedicated forces.

Only a person who accepts and deeply understands these truths can consider himself a genuine Armenian national political figure or, in general, an Armenian nationalist, and only such a political figure will be capable of planting the seeds of a future national revolution and rebirth in Armenia.
