Reading these words by Shahan Natalie reminds me of my years living in America...

Reading these words by Shahan Natalie reminds me of my years living in America when I saw how our compatriots protested against Turkish atrocities and gave greater importance to April 24, the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, than, for example, to May 28, the day of victory and independence.

This was more than 20 years ago, and even then, witnessing all this, I deeply understood that we, as a people, had chosen the wrong and defeatist path. A people who continuously complain about the crimes committed against them, instead of thinking about achieving new victories, will ultimately face new crimes and defeats. This is because merciless nature does not pity the weak, but rather rewards the strong.

"Take the Armenian and foreign newspapers of the last half-century, and you will read one thing, alas, only one thing—that the Turkish government is massacring, has massacred the peaceful Armenian villager, the Armenian child, and the elderly, in other words, the people.

For forty years, we have witnessed this reality and filled the world with sorrowful stories until the name Armenian became synonymous with a massacred people, a cowardly rabbit, and, at best, a begging orphan...

Our doctrinal sermons against Turkish measures do not secure our lives but merely express our consent to die peacefully."

- Shahan Natalie, "The Turks and Us", 1931
