I want to respond to the President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, who, a few days ago, while speaking with an Artsakh journalist, indirectly blamed the entire Artsakh Armenian population for not fighting and for leaving Artsakh in September 2023.

Let Alen get acquainted with my unit commander, Lieutenant Kamo Bagiryan, who I was with in Martakert during the treacherous 44-day war. On September 19, 2023, when the final attack on Artsakh began, Kamo remained at his position and honorably died in battle, while many of his soldiers panicked and abandoned their posts.

Many Armenians, like Kamo, chose what Alen calls "staying and fighting to the end." Meanwhile, Alen and his entire incompetent and anti-national group recognized Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan and abandoned Artsakh and its people. I am confident that if we had a national state that always stood behind Artsakh and, through its actions, inspired and urged the people of Artsakh to fight to the end, most of them would have done, like Kamo—just as they did in the Artsakh Liberation War.

Kamo’s bravery was truly remarkable and contagious, and it was an honor for me to stand by his side from the beginning to the end of the war. Unfortunately, after the 2020 war, I only saw him once, when we went for a beer together in Yerevan. I hope that in the next life, we can have another drink together.
